The Popular Party Municipal Group in Lleida has called for an extension of the city's athletics track operating hours, responding to user complaints about limited training availability.

Currently, the sports facilities are only open from Monday to Friday from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with no morning service. On Saturdays, access is restricted from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM, remaining closed in the afternoon, and they do not open at all on Sundays. This situation forces many athletes to train outdoors due to a lack of suitable alternatives.

"The tracks are in good condition, but the hours are a disgrace. It makes no sense for a sports infrastructure of this level to be closed in the morning and on Sundays, forcing athletes to find alternatives elsewhere."

Roger Melero · Lleida PP Councillor
Roger Melero, a councillor for the PP of Lleida, described these hours as "clearly insufficient" and emphasized that they do not meet the needs of athletes. He highlighted that many athletes, both amateur and federated, cannot combine their training with the current schedules due to work, academic, or family commitments.
The Popular Party proposes implementing a shift system that includes morning and afternoon slots during the week, in addition to extending Saturday hours and ensuring the tracks are open on Sundays. According to Melero, this measure is a "matter of political will and management" to provide a decent service to the city's athletes.

"The promotion of sport cannot remain just words or strategic plans; it must translate into concrete measures. If we want an active and healthy Lleida, we must make it easier for people to train in proper conditions."
