The awards, which gathered 186 competing oils, 53 more than the previous year, confirmed the increasing quality and diversity of the Catalan olive oil sector. Although producers from Pallars did not achieve any of the major prizes, they stood out in several categories for small producers and native varieties.
In the small producers category, Oli del Boix de Cal Boix was awarded in the medium green fruity section, while Cimma Massanell from Olea Drinks received a prize for the ripe fruity section. These recognitions underscore the effort made by the small businesses in the region.
Furthermore, Cimma Massanell and Furro de Sodelplana were recognized in the category of oils made in native variety recovery projects. The jury also granted a special mention to the Pallars Olive Oil Producers Association for its promotional and support work in the sector.
“"Extra virgin olive oil is one of the country's great gastronomic treasures and an essential food in our way of understanding cuisine and health."
The event, chaired by Minister Òscar Ordeig, is part of the recognition of Catalonia as a World Region of Gastronomy. The project will culminate next February with the publication of the Second Guide to the Best Extra Virgin Olive Oils of Catalonia, which will boost product promotion and commercialization.
