The protest, called by the Federació Nacional Catalana de Confraries de Pescadors (FNCCP), will affect all fishing modalities, including small-scale, purse seining, and trawling. During the strike day, fleets will remain docked and fish markets will be closed, directly impacting fresh fish commercialization.
In the town of Blanes, fishermen will gather at 11:30 AM in the Plaça dels Dies Feiners to show their rejection of the regulation. The FNCCP argues that the new administrative duties are impossible for vessels to handle and could lead to very serious sanctions in case of non-compliance.
This protest aims to highlight the practical and economic difficulties generated by the regulation and demand a regulatory framework that is realistic and applicable to all fleets on the Catalan coast.
Coinciding with the stoppage, a meeting has been called between the Federación Nacional Española de Cofradías de Pescadores and the SGPM in Madrid. The president of the Catalan federation, Antoni Abad, will attend to convey the demands of the Mediterranean guilds.
