Josman pyrotechnics, from Ourense, was responsible for inaugurating the event, launching approximately 570 kilograms of explosives. The company's head, Hugo Salgado, explained that the show included a sequence designed to replicate the colors of the Blanes flag, a detail that has excited the company. Salgado acknowledged the difficulty of competing with Pirotecnia Valenciana, the winner of the last five editions, although he expressed the hope of unseating them in future occasions.
The spectacle commenced punctually at half-past ten at night on Sa Palomera beach. This competition, now in its 54th edition, is one of the most significant events for the municipality, as highlighted by the Councilor for Fairs and Festivals, Quique Pérez. Pérez emphasized this year's lineup, considered strong with the participation of some of the best pyrotechnics companies.
The mayor of Blanes, Jordi Hernández, stressed the municipality's commitment to its main festival and highlighted the security measures organized to accommodate the large number of attendees. It is estimated that around 100,000 people gather daily to watch the shows, a figure that increases on weekends.
The competition will continue with Pirotecnia Duarte from Portugal on Friday, followed by Xaraiva from Ourense on Saturday, and Pirotecnia Valenciana on Sunday, who will aim to retain their title. On Monday, the event will conclude with Jinli Fireworks from China.
One of this year's novelties is the increase in the economic endowment, with 30,000 euros for each participating pyrotechnics company. The prizes include 6,000 euros for the first-place winner and 2,000 euros for the second. Additionally, the winner will be contracted to perform the 'Nocturnal Mascletà' during the main festival, valued at 8,000 euros, and will receive a trophy.
The verdict of the winners will be announced next Tuesday. Throughout the five days, a hundred police and health personnel will ensure security. The Blanes competition is considered one of the best fireworks displays in Catalonia and the second in Spain.
