Nine officers from the Traffic Unit have received training to operate this approved device, capable of legally certifying the maximum speed of VMPs. The Head of the Local Police, Francisco Javier Jarillo, highlighted the importance of incorporating this certified resource for the police force.
According to Sub-inspector Paco Muriel, cases have been identified where VMPs exceeded the 25 km/h limit, reaching speeds of up to 140 km/h. These more comprehensive controls will now have legal guarantee, as the system records the test for one minute and generates a PDF report detailing the maximum speed achieved.
Fines for exceeding the speed limit can reach 500 euros and may result in vehicle immobilization. The Servei Català de Trànsit will process the sanctioning procedures. In cases of repeat offenses, the Local Police will attach a report to the fine to document the repeated dangerous behavior. A space has been designated to store confiscated scooters, a practice that has become daily.
The mayor of Blanes, Jordi Hernández, positively assessed the new resource, emphasizing that the misuse of VMPs is a concern for citizens and that it is important to ensure the safety of pedestrians and riders by discouraging behaviors such as speeding or riding in unauthorized areas.
