The European Commission stated this February that it is convinced it can resolve the grievances of fishermen in Blanes regarding new digital weighing and certification regulations.

While Brussels refuses to reopen the community legal framework, the executive maintains that the current texts allow for enough flexibility to find technical solutions. This approach aims to reconcile the law with the practical needs of the fishing sector.
The dispute led the Blanes fishing fleet to strike last January. Local guilds argued that the mandatory digital certification of catches was impractical for their daily operations at sea.
Additionally, the town of Tossa de Mar is hosting its 49th Rua de la Ressaca Carnival parade this Saturday. The event has reached a record participation of 1,600 people, making it one of the oldest carnival traditions in the Costa Brava region.
