Mossos d'Esquadra arrested two men, aged 24 and 42, in Mataró on Tuesday as alleged perpetrators of three fraud offenses and usurpation of public functions in Blanes.

The two individuals allegedly posed as officials from the Blanes City Council to demand money from shopkeepers for waste collection fees. According to a police statement, the incidents occurred in early March, when one of the scammers contacted the victims by phone.
The man argued that the waste fee receipt had been returned and that if it was not paid quickly, a surcharge would be applied. Subsequently, he requested payment via bank transfer, Bizum, or by asking for credit card details. In this way, they managed to obtain two payments of 300 euros and one of 1,150 euros.
The perpetrators deceived the victims with a "clear" command of administrative and legal language. It so happens that the scammers attempted to defraud the managers of three other establishments, but were unsuccessful as they became suspicious of their actions.
The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are not ruled out. The detainees, who have prior records, were brought before the duty investigating court of Blanes on Wednesday.
