The French cat Filou traveled 250 kilometers from Maçanet de la Selva to Olonzac, in southern France, reuniting with his owners on January 9, 2026, after five months missing.

The cat Filou became the star of a story that sounds like a fairy tale after disappearing in early August at the highway rest area in Maçanet de la Selva, while his owners, Patrick Sire and his wife Evelyne, were returning to France.

"He traveled 250 km, crossed the border, cities and rivers, to return home. It's incredible."

Patrick Sire · Cat Owner
The French tourist couple, returning from the Ebro Delta, noticed the disappearance the next day, August 10, once they had crossed the border. They returned to the Maçanet gas station and contacted an animal protection association, but had to go home to Olonzac without their feline.
The reunion occurred on January 9, 2026, five months later, thanks to a neighbor, Hélène Tisseyre, who found the cat weak and took him to the vet. The microchip allowed the owners to be located, just the day before Evelyne's birthday, preventing Patrick Sire from having to adopt a new kitten.
