A serious incident occurred in the early hours of August 5th near Gerry’s Bar, on Carrer de l’Hospital Vell in Lloret de Mar. A young man of North African origin, approximately 20 years old, caused a violent situation that required the intervention of two Local Police patrols.
According to nearby sources, a bar employee alerted officers to the presence of a man in front of the establishment holding two glass bottles and intending to attack people. Upon the police's arrival, the bar manager explained that the individual was highly agitated, shouting and threatening passers-by, possibly under the influence of alcohol and narcotics.
One of the patrols located the young man shortly after on Carrer de Santa Cristina. At that time, he was shirtless and had several bleeding wounds on his face, particularly on his lips and forehead. The man continued to exhibit very violent behavior and lunged at one of the officers, who had to defend himself to maintain a safe distance.
With the arrival of the second patrol, officers proceeded to subdue the young man, moving him away from the crowded area. The intervention also aimed to prevent the individual from further self-harm, as he was repeatedly hitting his head. He was later moved to a safe zone.
The bar manager confirmed to the officers that the young man had thrown two glass bottles at him, which hit a chair he used for protection. The incident caused no major damage, and the owner announced his intention to file a complaint.
Officers informed the young man that he would be reported for disturbing the peace. He was warned that if he returned to the area to harass or assault anyone, he could face a charge of disobedience to authority. Despite his condition, the young man stated he understood the instructions and left the scene.
Police unions consulted have noted an increase in similar incidents, linking it to communication issues with the Lloret de Mar City Council. They are calling for direct dialogue to address the conflict and improve police response.
