A fire that broke out Sunday night in a flat on Plaça Medellín in Blanes forced the resident family to relocate after an overheating mobile phone ignited a mattress.

The blaze started around quarter past eleven at night, concentrated in a room containing a mattress and a mobile phone that was charging. The device overheated, causing the mattress to catch fire.
Four fire crews from the Bombers responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the flames. The property sustained damage primarily in the room where the fire originated. One person was inside the flat at the time of the incident and escaped unharmed.
Although the fire did not spread to the rest of the flat, the family could not stay overnight and had to find their own alternative accommodation. The operation concluded around one in the morning. The Local Police of Blanes and the Emergency Medical System (SEM) also attended.
