The Lloret de Mar City Council has reached an agreement with the family of Kazakhstan's former president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, to reopen the Can Juncadella coastal path, which has been closed to the public for 17 years.

The Lloret de Mar council will submit an agreement with the company Flinder Data SL, linked to the family of the former Kazakh leader, for approval at this Tuesday's municipal plenary session. This agreement aims to resolve a long-standing urban conflict that began in 2007, when the property acquired the Can Juncadella estate, approximately 20 hectares in the Cadiretes Massif, and blocked access to the coastal path and the GR-92.
Under the terms of the agreement, the property will bear the full costs of drafting the project and executing the works for a new path layout. This solution seeks to avoid further legal action, as the Supreme Court already ratified in 2023 the obligation to restore access, despite the path remaining blocked by fences and surveillance systems.

"This solution will allow residents and visitors to reclaim a historical demand and enjoy a heritage that, once the works are completed, will become municipal management and maintenance."

The new route will be designed under the supervision of municipal technicians and the Generalitat de Catalunya, with the aim of ensuring its landscape integration into an area declared a Plan of Natural Interest Spaces (PEIN). Before the start of the works, the agreement must undergo a one-month public information period and receive final approval from the Girona Urban Planning Commission.
Since the arrival of the Kazakh clan in Lloret de Mar, residents have reported the closure of paths, an unprecedented security deployment, and allegedly irregular works, such as the dumping of 100 cubic meters of sand in Cala Rajols to create a private beach or the construction of a swimming pool on the cliffs. Furthermore, the Nazarbayev family's influence extends to the luxury healthcare sector in Barcelona, with the establishment of a regenerative medicine clinic in the Les Tres Torres neighborhood.
Despite the announcement of the agreement, entities such as SOS Lloret remain skeptical, recalling a similar agreement from 2009 that was not fulfilled. Activists demand the immediate removal of fences and deterrent signage in compliance with firm judicial rulings.
