The operation began around two in the morning on Thursday when a taxi driver alerted the police that a person was breaking several trash cans in the center of the municipality of Blanes. Two patrols immediately went to Carrer Ample, where they confirmed the incident.
Officers located a man matching the description who, at that moment, was burning another bin. When they tried to intercept him, the individual resisted and attacked the officers using pepper spray.
As a result of the assault, two officers sustained injuries and had to be treated at the Blanes Regional Hospital. The man was finally arrested, charged with damage and arson of urban furniture (11 bins torn out and 2 burned) and assault on authority figures.
The detainee, who already had several previous records for burglaries and assaults on authority, is scheduled to appear before a judge in the coming hours.
