The Girostudi is a pioneering initiative promoted by the Dipsalut Observatory whose main goal is to collect proximity data over a 10-year period to better understand the social, environmental, and health reality of the territory. This project is advised by a scientific committee of experts in social research, health, and environment.
A total of 18 Girona municipalities will participate in this research, including the three towns from La Selva mentioned. The lack of detailed proprietary data in many small municipalities makes the Girostudi crucial, as it will provide tailored information for each locality, allowing for the detection of inequalities and the design of more efficient public policies.
A fundamental part of the study will focus on the youth population, collecting data from 4,000 young people aged 16 to 17 from La Selva and across Girona. Participants will provide information on well-being, living conditions, and environment, as well as biological samples, to analyze how social and environmental factors influence health.
The project incorporates a digital cohort, which will allow for continuous communication with participants and rapid action in the face of potential health crises. Furthermore, the Girostudi promotes citizen science, opening the door to new research projects and fostering the direct involvement of the local population in knowledge generation.
