The Public Health Body of the Girona Provincial Council has granted a subsidy of €103,920.58 to the Lloret de Mar City Council to cover the costs of the municipality's lifeguard and rescue services during 2026. This contribution is divided into €96,605.54 for the safety, surveillance, rescue, and lifeguarding of the beaches, and €7,315.04 for the municipal swimming pool service.
The aid for the beaches focuses on personnel costs for the operation. This includes the lifeguard and rescue service contracted from an external company, the socio-health technician for bathing support, and municipal beach surveillance staff. It also covers the cost of beach demarcation. Lifeguard professionals must hold official accreditation and be registered with the Official Registry of Sports Professionals of Catalonia (ROPEC).
Currently, the beach operation has about twenty lifeguards, a figure that increases to 25 professionals during peak season weekends in July and August. These teams carry out prevention, surveillance, rescue, and assistance tasks for bathers, in coordination with municipal services and emergency corps.
Regarding the municipal swimming pool, the subsidy is allocated to finance the lifeguard and rescue service provided at the facility.
