Around 400 preschool professionals have mobilized in Tarragona to demand improvements in their working conditions and greater recognition of their educational work.

The 0-3 stage education sector has initiated a wave of protests to dignify their work. Although this stage was included in the school curriculum as the first phase of learning in 2023, the working reality for educators has not improved, maintaining low salaries and high ratios.

"The basis of everything is that we are recognized as an educational stage."

This demand implies the need for more specialized resources, an increase in staff, and a unified salary for the entire sector. The complexity of the management model, with public, private, and outsourced schools, raises concerns, especially in outsourced ones, where remuneration is often set around the interprofessional minimum wage.
The mobilization, which took place on Thursday at noon, included a concentration in Plaça de la Font and a traffic blockade on Rambla Vella and Rambla Nova. The protesters also went to Plaça Imperial Tarraco to read a manifesto in front of the Government Subdelegation.

There can be no education without resources.

Professionals denounce the workload, with a single technician in charge of up to 8 babies or 20 children aged 2 to 3 years. They demand more educational support with pairs of professionals in the classroom and equal working conditions, regardless of the center's management type.
This protest is part of a month of mobilizations by the education sector, which has managed to unite various entities and unions. Preschool stage workers have announced a unitary demonstration in Barcelona for May 20.
