Catalonia's coastline will feature 50 beach areas for dogs to swim this summer, a figure similar to last year with some notable additions.

The summer season arrives with 50 beaches across the Catalan coast offering designated areas for dogs to swim. This number maintains last year's trend but includes new additions, such as Vila-seca (Tarragonès) debuting its first dog-friendly zone at La Pineda beach. Meanwhile, Tarragona city will double its offerings with two pet-friendly beaches. Conversely, Cubelles (Garraf) will not have this option this year due to planned construction extending until 2027.
Over 60% of Catalan coastal municipalities provide some form of dog-friendly beach space, with or without time restrictions. The La Selva region remains the only coastal area in Catalonia without any options for taking pets to the beach during the summer. In contrast, Maresme leads with 80% of its coastal municipalities offering pet-friendly beaches, totaling 13 designated areas.
Most of these beaches permit access with animals throughout daylight hours during the high season, typically from early June to late September. However, some municipalities impose time restrictions. For instance, in Sant Pol de Mar (Maresme), access is only allowed from 8 PM to 8 AM, a similar schedule to the section of beach in El Prat de Llobregat (Baix Llobregat). In Altafulla (Tarragonès), restrictions are from 7 AM to 8:30 AM and from 10 PM to 11:30 PM. In Alcanar (Montsià), La Platjola beach has specific hours between 11 AM and 6 PM, valid for Easter week and from June 15th to September 15th.
The La Selva region continues to be the only one on the Catalan coast without urban beaches for dogs. Although a pilot test was conducted in Blanes during the winter, the town council has decided against maintaining it for the summer. In contrast, Maresme boasts 13 designated beaches, followed by Alt Empordà with 11 areas. Tarragonès has 6 beaches, and Terres de l'Ebre, through Montsià, has 4. Other regions like Baix Empordà, Garraf, Baix Llobregat, Barcelonès, Baix Camp, Baix Ebre, and Baix Penedès also offer options for pets.
Usage conditions vary among municipalities. Some beaches require dogs to be leashed and supervised, as in Torroella de Montgrí (Baix Empordà). Other areas are demarcated with fences and signage. Vila-seca has marked its swimming zone with buoys, and towns like Pineda de Mar already offered pet showers last year. There are also unregulated spaces, such as Belis beach in Sant Pere de Ribes (Garraf).
