The decision was made after intense rainfall in recent hours made the equestrian circuit located in the Parc de la Torre d'en Dolça unusable. Organizers and participants are already working to find a new date for the event, with the intention of holding it later this winter.
Members of the Comissió Hípica de Vila-seca monitored the condition of the track, which had been prepared to host the only professional circuit races held in Catalonia. After a first visit at 8 AM that still offered some hope, a second inspection confirmed that there were no safety guarantees to hold the races.
This postponement affects a total of 19 English thoroughbred horses from 13 stables across Spain and a dozen riders who had confirmed their participation in the Cós de Sant Antoni 2026. Some of these participants were already in Vila-seca and had to leave without competing.
This is not the first time bad weather has forced the suspension of the traditional equestrian event in Vila-seca. In 2020, rain also forced a postponement, although on that occasion, the outbreak of the pandemic led to the definitive cancellation of the event. This weekend's storm has also suspended other Winter Festival events, such as the Tres Tombs (Three Turns) and the Correfoc petit (Small Fire Run), scheduled for Saturday, January 17.
