Alejandro Cruces, an architect and muralist, expressed his great fortune at being one of the winners of the IV Salou Mural Painting Contest. This was his first visit to the city, where he discovered places like Cap Salou, Platja Llarga, and the pine forest area, which served as his inspiration.
The mural's proximity to nature, surrounded by pine trees and next to the beach, led Cruces to depict native birds. Animals are a recurring theme in his work, and on this occasion, he chose the Eurasian blue tit and the long-tailed tit.
Cruces works exclusively with spray paint, a technique he adopted after starting with graffiti. He aims to create contrasts between the realistic part of the artwork and the backgrounds, playing with shadows and different depth planes to generate a sense of relief and three-dimensionality.
His background in Architecture has also influenced his understanding of murals. Although he began with graffiti, he now focuses on muralism, participating in contests and enjoying the artistic environment.
The mural, measuring approximately 1.70 meters high by 10 meters wide, is made with solvent-based paint and a resistant outdoor finish, without direct sunlight exposure, which should ensure its preservation.
The work began on the night of September 3rd, and Cruces took advantage of the weekend to explore Salou and enjoy the Fiesta del Rey Jaime I before continuing his work during the week. The artist described the experience as very positive and enriching.
