The Altafulla City Council launched four new managed feline colonies this March 2026, featuring specialized shelters designed to improve the welfare of community cats and organize their presence in public spaces.

These new sites are located at Plaça Nova, Plaça Boters, Carrer de les Moreres, and Carrer Tarongers. The initiative aims to provide a dignified environment for the animals while allowing for better sanitary monitoring and ethical population control within the municipality.

"These new colonies allow for better management of the presence of community cats and dignify the spaces where they live."

Dani Franquès · Councilor for Animal Protection
Local authorities are encouraging residents to participate as volunteers to help maintain the colonies. Interested citizens can reach out to Mar Riambau to assist in the daily oversight and responsible management of these feline communities.
