The Department of Territory has activated a preventive alert due to the forecast of high ozone levels in Plana de Vic and Camp de Tarragona, with health recommendations for the population.

The Department of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition has reported the activation of a preventive alert due to the forecast of high ozone levels in the air quality zones of Plana de Vic and Camp de Tarragona. In the rest of the territory, regular levels are expected. This alert is the preliminary step before the possible exceeding of the information threshold, set at 180 µg/m³.
According to data on tropospheric ozone levels, if the information threshold is exceeded, the most vulnerable population is advised to reduce intense physical exercise, especially outdoors. The health effects of ozone can include coughing, throat, neck, and eye irritation, as well as respiratory difficulties such as a dry throat.
Should the alert threshold of 240 µg/m³ be exceeded, the Catalan Public Health Agency recommends that the most vulnerable population completely avoid intense physical exercise, and that the general population reduce it.
