The Notes d’Estiu festival, organized by the School and Conservatory of Music of the Provincial Council of Tarragona, features a groundbreaking performance by pianist Carles Marigó. The artist is showcasing a show that combines his piano talent with artificial intelligence, a union that Marigó states evokes strong emotions in the audience, moving from initial reluctance to complete engagement.
The concert, titled Inner Voice, includes original compositions and improvisation, with the audience actively participating. Marigó describes the event as a 'party with a piano, a drum kit, and AI,' emphasizing that the artificial intelligence has been created 'artisanal and ethically' for the project. The performance is enhanced by visual projections and features collaboration with Álex Tentor on AI development.
“"At the end of the show, they leave very moved and delighted."
This contemporary classical music project, a co-production by the Mercat de la Música Viva de Vic, Artifica Pro, and Kreo Música, with support from Barcelona Music Lab, premiered at the Palau de la Música and has since toured national stages. Marigó aims to 'surprise people' and believes that despite potential negative perceptions of AI in art, they have created a 'very personal work that moves people'.
The Notes d’Estiu festival, themed Ecos del passat, reptes del present (Echoes of the past, challenges of the present), explores the relationship between musical tradition and technology, examining how to preserve artisanal essence while integrating digital tools. Activities, held from June 28 to 30 at the Auditori Diputació, include workshops, conferences, and debates.
In addition to Marigó's performance, the festival will feature the ensemble The Ministers of Past Time and conclude with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia performing Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4 in its chamber version, with soprano Katja Maderer.
