The Catalan Parliament unanimously approved a motion on Thursday calling for the urgent implementation of 24-hour mechanical thrombectomy services at Hospital Joan XXIII in Tarragona.

The motion, presented by Junts per Catalunya, urges the Government to provide the necessary staff and technical equipment to ensure full stroke care. Currently, the specialized procedure is only available in Tarragona on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, forcing patients to be transferred to Barcelona during off-hours.

"Citizens' health cannot depend on their zip code."

President Salvador Illa stated that the service will be expanded as soon as professional guarantees are met. Health Minister Olga Pané is expected to release a formal schedule within 15 days to extend this critical medical service to all major regional hospitals, including those in Lleida and Girona.
