The Tarragona City Council has launched the rehabilitation of the Santiyán street building, which will become the new socio-community facility for the Part Baixa district, with an expected duration of four months.

The first phase of the works focuses on the rehabilitation of the patio, the ground floor, and the first floor, in addition to the restoration of the facades of the building located at number 8 on Santiyán street. This work, which began the second week of January, has a budget of 449,925.55 euros and is expected to be completed in four months.

"with this first phase, we begin to launch the transformation of the Part Baixa, which we have planned from the municipal government and which will culminate with the Neighborhood Plan and will allow us to respond to the needs of the neighborhood"

Nacho García · Councillor for Urban Planning
This action will allow for the creation of an auditorium on the ground floor and a total of eleven modules between the ground and first floors, suitable for meetings, organizations, and socio-community and cultural activities in the neighborhood. This facility responds to one of the historical demands of the residents of the Part Baixa.
The building, which dates back to the 19th century and covers about 2,000m2, was originally a convent annexed to the church of Sant Nicolau de Bari and later a religious school and police barracks until the 60s. The second phase of rehabilitation, framed within the Neighborhood Plan, will focus on the second and third floors, with a budget of 950,000 euros, and is scheduled for execution during 2028.
