The personal aptitude tests (PAP) for future teachers in the Tarragona region reveal that 42.44% of candidates do not pass, a figure that remains stable compared to previous years.

The situation regarding the results of the entrance exams for Early Childhood Education and Primary Education degrees in Tarragona continues to be a cause for concern. Of the 794 individuals who took the personal aptitude test (PAP) on April 11, only 57.56% were deemed suitable. This data is consistent with previous years, where the average pass rate was 57% in 2024 and 58% in 2025.
Although Tarragona's results are slightly above the Catalonia average of 54.4%, the persistence of a high percentage of failures (42.44% this year) raises concerns among educational authorities. The test evaluates key competencies such as communication, critical reasoning, and logical-mathematical skills, considered the "minimum required" for the teaching profession.

"The results are not improving, and, as in previous years, four out of ten fail."

By access routes, in Catalonia, 57.81% of students from Bachillerato passed the test, while only 34.42% of those from higher-level vocational training cycles (CFGS) obtained a passing grade. The qualification obtained has indefinite validity.
Candidates who did not pass the ordinary call will have another opportunity in the extraordinary call on July 17. Those who pass will be able to accredit their result in the September university pre-registration to access Education studies. It should be noted that students who have already passed the PAP will now have to complete the university entrance exams (PAU), which will be held on June 9, 10, and 11 for the ordinary call, and September 2, 3, and 4 for the extraordinary call.
This year marks a decade since the implementation of this initiative, which aims to improve the standard of future teachers. According to university educators, the measure has had a positive impact on new cohorts. Furthermore, far from discouraging applicants, the requirement has increased interest, rising from around 400 registered in the first edition in Tarragona to almost 800 in the latest.
