The Mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales, and the President of the Diputació, Noemí Llauradó, signed the agreement today to transfer a space in the Tabacalera for the future relocation of the Tarragona Music Conservatory.

The signing formalizes the cession of one of the Tabacalera warehouses to the provincial body for a period of 75 years. This new location will offer the Tarragona Music Conservatory (CMT) an area of 7,000 m², double the size of its current premises on Cavallers street, after 70 years of the institution's existence.

"It is not just a relocation of facilities. It is a commitment to culture and education."

Rubén Viñuales · Mayor of Tarragona
Mayor Viñuales emphasized that the CMT will be integrated into a “cultural and training hub,” alongside other facilities such as the Tarragona Central Library, the Tarragona Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAT), and the EUSE headquarters.

"today is a historic and relevant day for the Diputació, due to the relocation of the conservatory to an emblematic and iconic building."

Noemí Llauradó · President of the Diputació de Tarragona
President Llauradó stated that, although the construction timeline depends on its progress, the goal is for the new conservatory to start operating by the 2031-32 or 2032-33 academic year. The total budget for the project is estimated at 15 million euros, with the executive project expected to be completed around 2028.
