The photographic collection of Joaquim Figueras Pijuan, featuring thousands of images of Salou and the Costa Daurada, has been donated to the Centre d’Estudis Salouencs to preserve collective memory.

Photographer Joaquim Figueras Pijuan, who settled in Salou in 2000, spent over two decades capturing the beauty of the landscapes, beaches, nature, and people of the city and the entire Costa Daurada. His sensitive eye towards the environment is reflected in images documenting everything from the smallest fauna to the vastness of the sky, as well as local festivals and weather phenomena.
Following his death last year, his sister, Carolina Figueras, has donated the photographer's extensive archive, which includes negatives, slides, and over 7,000 digital photographs, to the Centre d’Estudis Salouencs. This donation aims to transform the material into a living resource for the community and become part of Salou's collective memory.
The digital collection is now publicly accessible through the author's profile on the Flickr platform. Figueras Pijuan's passion for photography began in the 1990s in Barcelona, but it was his arrival in Salou in 2000, following a job opportunity at a photo shop, that marked a turning point in his career. Known artistically as Joaquim F.P., he became a respected graphic chronicler of the Costa Daurada.
Paradoxically, his life ended on April 17, 2025, due to an accidental fall near the lighthouse of Cap de Salou, a location he frequently immortalized. The Centre d’Estudis Salouencs, recently reactivated, considers the incorporation of this collection a key piece for the city's historical research.
