The renovation of the Escatrón–Els Aubals–La Secuita power line is emerging as a crucial infrastructure for the energy present and future of Tarragona and southern Catalonia, with a transport capacity of up to 3 gigawatts.

This infrastructure, equivalent to the power of three nuclear reactors, is essential for advancing the decarbonization of the petrochemical hub, fostering new industrial projects, and ensuring energy supply amidst growing demand. Its impact extends beyond major investments like the gigafactory in Móra la Nova or the Ecoplanta in El Morell, as it will also address the saturation of the distribution network affecting numerous businesses and residents in the region.
The necessity of this project, however, does not diminish the importance of a transparent, democratic, and citizen-connected process. The submission of over 17,000 allegations has highlighted an engaged and mobilized society. Nevertheless, a minority of these allegations correspond to property owners directly affected by the line, with specific demands regarding their land.
In this regard, the apparent consensus with directly affected neighbors and the willingness of Redeia, which has already met with 40% of those affected and has shown openness to listen and offer individualized responses, is positive.

Tarragona has a golden opportunity before it, and seizing it requires balance: addressing those affected, listening to society, and, at the same time, not abandoning key infrastructures for its development. We are moving in the right direction.

The remaining allegations raise legitimate debates about the energy and territorial model, which must be heard. However, obstruction is not constructive, and these issues should be addressed in the political sphere, where major strategic decisions are defined and where the need for this line was already established. Tarragona has a unique opportunity, and its utilization demands a balance between attending to those affected, listening to society, and not foregoing essential infrastructures for its development.
