On Monday afternoon, the Camp de Tarragona region experienced a severe storm accompanied by hail and strong winds. Tarragona city, especially its lower and central parts, suffered street and plaza flooding in areas such as Carrer Joan Baptista Plana, Imperial Tàrraco, Carrer Vidal i Barraquer, Carrer d'Apodaca, and Avinguda Prat de la Riba. Strong gusts of wind led to fallen trees and hampered vehicle circulation, forcing the safe stoppage of some buses.
Between 5 PM and 6:30 PM, Firefighters responded to 129 calls, 107 of which were in the Tarragona region and 74 in the city. The most common incidents involved fallen trees, branches, minor flooding, and electrical cable issues. The emergency number 112 received 373 calls by 7 PM, resulting in 259 cases, primarily from Tarragona (70%) and Baix Camp (10%).
In Tarragona, emergency services including the Guàrdia Urbana, Ematsa, the Municipal Brigade, Cleaning Services, and Civil Protection are coordinating efforts. The Councillor for Civil Protection and Mobility, Sonia Orts, noted that despite significant material damage, including blocked roads, fallen trees, and closed parks, 'fortunately, there are no reports of personal injuries'.
The Tarragona City Council reports mobility disruptions in various areas such as Carrer Cigonya, Carrer Vidal i Barraquer, Polígon Francolí, El Serrallo, beach areas, Polígon Entrevies, Icomar, the Pont de Santa Tecla, and the N-340 in Bonavista. Municipal services are working to remove dangerous trees, and parks have been closed. The public is urged to exercise extreme caution, stay indoors, and avoid unnecessary travel.
The storm also affected Reus, with flooded streets, fallen trees and electrical wiring, and a marquee blown away by the wind in the Mas Abelló area. Other municipalities such as Calafell, Roda de Berà, and El Vendrell also experienced incidents. On the AP-7 motorway, one lane was closed near Tarragona, and Rodalies train lines R14, R15, and RT-1 were cut between Móra la Nova and Reus, with an alternative bus service established for the R15.
