The political party Junts per Catalunya has launched a series of institutional initiatives in the Spanish Congress and the Tarragona Provincial Council to protest the closure of factories in Valls and Montblanc.

The decision by International Paper and DS Smith threatens nearly 200 direct jobs in the Camp de Tarragona region. Party representatives, including MP Josep Maria Cruset, have met with labor unions to coordinate a defense of these historic industrial sites, some of which have operated for over 75 years.
A non-legislative motion has been filed in Madrid calling for government intervention, while a local institutional declaration is set for debate this Friday. Junts argues that the packaging sector remains viable due to the rise of e-commerce and suggests that the facilities should be sold to third parties rather than being permanently shut down.
