The Junts parliamentary group has urged the Government to exercise its right of first refusal and redemption to acquire the Ca l'Ardiaca building in Tarragona, a 12th-century medieval palace in a state of degradation.

The property, listed as a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN) for a year, is currently closed and significantly deteriorated. This situation has led the political party to present a resolution proposal in the Parliament to ensure its preservation.
The Department of Culture has indicated that they are not aware that the owner, the company Desarrollos Arbe, has expressed any intention to sell the property in the short term. However, they have emphasized the importance of guaranteeing the conservation of Ca l'Ardiaca's patrimonial and historical values and will continue to require the owner to comply with preservation laws.
Junts' proposal highlights that the complexity of the palace's patrimonial and archaeological value has prevented a private project to build a luxury hotel from progressing. This inability of the private project to ensure the property's conservation makes a definitive public intervention necessary.

"The inability of the private project to guarantee the conservation of the property has been evidenced, highlighting the need for a definitive public intervention to ensure its preservation."

The Tarragona City Council already had to intervene urgently in February 2024, allocating 600,000 euros subsidiarily for consolidation works, money that was later seized from the owner due to non-payment. The Junts deputy recalled that the Generalitat has carried out similar operations in the past, such as the acquisition of the Palau Robert in Barcelona in 1981.
