The exhibition, organized by the Fundació Privada Mútua Catalana and Port Tarragona, with collaboration from the Tarragona City Council, the Tarragona Provincial Council, the Rovira i Virgili University, and the Generalitat de Catalunya, will be open until October 18th. The winners of this edition were announced during the inauguration.
The awarded works are 'Chiringuito Marcel' by Pep Encinas in the Painting category, 'Vibración colectiva' by Juan Andrés Varea in the local category, and 'Arrels, llassos invisibles' by Maria Begoña Montejo in Drawing & Engraving. These pieces, along with a selection of the other submitted works, form the exhibition.
Pere Jornet, president of the Fundació Privada Mútua Catalana, highlighted that the contest and exhibition are "an artistic benchmark throughout the country," growing in prestige and participation year after year. The objective is to "discover new talents and disseminate high-quality artistic expressions," reflecting "the vitality of our society".
Meanwhile, Teresa Jacas, Port-City coordinator for Port Tarragona, emphasized the Port's commitment to "promoting culture and art" and valued the exhibition spaces as the "main artistic showcase for the entire region".
Pere Salas, painter and contest coordinator, noted the "great quality" of the works and the high participation, which meant the jury had "a lot of work to choose the winners." With over 200 works from artists across various Spanish provinces, a record has been set, demonstrating the contest's consolidation.
The contest offers one of the most significant prize pools in the southern Catalan art scene. The Painting prize is 5,000 euros, the Local Painting prize is 1,200 euros, and the Drawing & Engraving prize is 1,000 euros.
