Ocular emergencies accounted for approximately 2% of total hospital emergencies and 3% in primary care centers during Thursday morning. However, symptoms of retinal problems can appear days or even weeks after direct sun exposure.
The majority of incidents were concentrated in the Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre areas, although some were also registered in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. Of these, twelve individuals required an ambulance and seven were transferred to hospitals: one in critical condition due to trauma, one seriously injured, three moderately injured, and two with minor injuries.

Most treatments were minor and resolved at local healthcare centers. Overall, the healthcare system experienced a slight increase in assistance activity, with 17,216 emergencies recorded throughout the eclipse day, 12.2% more than the same day the previous week.
Nationally, the number of people treated for eye problems related to the eclipse exceeds 240. Looking at a solar eclipse with the naked eye can cause retinal damage, potentially irreversible. Consequences of improper observation can take days to appear, even starting the following week. It is recommended to go to the nearest hospital and schedule an appointment with a specialist if symptoms are perceived.
