The current Mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales, has announced his intention to lead the PSC ticket in the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for May 2027.

The Socialists, who regained control of the city in 2023, are looking to extend their influence in a stronghold where they have won every local election since 2007. Viñuales has managed a minority government by reaching agreements with Junts and En Comú Podem to pass key budgets and urban projects like the Tabacalera redevelopment.

"There is a real possibility of winning back the mayoralty, but it will be very difficult."

Xavi Puig · ERC Candidate for Mayor
ERC has already positioned Xavi Puig as their official candidate to challenge the incumbent. Other key players include the PP, led by Maria Mercè Martorell, and Junts, where Jordi Sendra intends to run again despite potential internal primary challenges.
