The number of patients waiting for specialist appointments in Camp de Tarragona has increased by 21% over the last five years, reaching 25,097 people this February.

While the total number of patients has grown, the average waiting time has decreased from 208 to 174 days. This shift is linked to CatSalut increasing healthcare staff by 25% and investing 6 billion euros to expand clinical capacity.
Neurology saw the highest relative increase in demand, while Otolaryngology remains the specialty with the largest volume of patients. Hospital Joan XXIII in Tarragona and Hospital Sant Joan in Reus are the most affected centers.
Despite the general improvement in wait times, some areas like traumatology have seen delays increase from 72 to 120 days since 2021, highlighting the uneven recovery of the health system.
