The incident, which occurred around 11:30 AM in the municipality of Constantí, a few meters from the Tarragona exit, left two drivers with minor injuries. According to the Servei Català de Trànsit, the collision involved a tanker truck, a van, and a car.
The tanker truck rear-ended the van, possibly due to a dangerous maneuver during an overtake at kilometer 148.5 northbound. This impact caused the truck to stop in the inner lane of the highway, completely blocking traffic.
The van was pushed to the left, ending up on the shoulder, while the car sustained minor damage. The accident generated queues and traffic jams that reached four kilometers in the direction of Barcelona, affecting circulation for more than five hours until the heavy vehicles could be removed and all lanes reopened.
The kilometer-long collapse reflected the large number of heavy vehicles that usually circulate on this road, which accounted for almost half of the vehicles blocked by this traffic accident at the gates of the Tarragona exit.
