Residents of municipalities such as Reus, Cambrils, El Catllar, La Canonja, Constantí, Mont-roig del Camp, and Tarragona will soon have access to a shared, free citizen security application. This was announced by municipal representatives, who confirmed the contract award for the service, designed to facilitate communication with security forces during emergencies.
According to the mayor of Tarragona, Rubén Viñuales, the application addresses a recurring public demand for enhanced security. A key feature is an SOS button that instantly geolocates the user and tracks their movement, eliminating the time typically spent identifying oneself and stating one's location during emergency calls.
The tool will also enable real-time recording of emergency situations via audio and video, resources that could be valuable for potential legal proceedings. The mayor of Reus, Sandra Guaita, highlighted the app's utility for local businesses, vulnerable individuals, and the elderly, emphasizing that it is not a "static" application but will adapt to the specific needs of each municipality over time.
Guaita also noted the ease it will provide for coordination and communication among security personnel in the participating municipalities. Similarly, the mayor of Cambrils, Oliver Klein, positively assessed the collaboration between police forces and the "proximity" the tool will foster with citizens.
The service contract has been awarded for 629,315.86 euros, to be shared among the project's initiating municipalities. The winning company is Goil Security SL, based in El Vendrell, which has previously implemented similar solutions in other towns. The application will be available in Catalan, Spanish, English, French, and German.
The event also included participation from the mayor of Mont-roig, Fran Morancho; the mayor of El Catllar, Alba López; the first deputy mayor of La Canonja, Lucía López Cerdán; and the Security Councillor of Constantí, Alfonso Riscos Agudo.
This institutional collaboration, driven by the town councils of Cambrils, El Catllar, La Canonja, Constantí, Mont-roig del Camp, Reus, and Tarragona, has been highly valued by all representatives. The Reus City Council is managing the procurement process, based on a cooperation agreement signed on January 28, 2025, with the support of the Associació per l'Impuls Metropolità del Camp de Tarragona.
