A new day of strike is affecting the teaching sector across Catalonia today. The call, promoted by the unions USTEC, Professors de Secundària, CGT, and Intersindical, coincides with a key meeting with the Department of Education. Yesterday, both sides moved closer after the department, headed by Esther Niubó, presented a salary supplement proposal of approximately 40 euros for all teachers.
Although the unions positively assessed the proposal's uniformity, they deemed it insufficient to reach a final agreement. The collective's main demands include labor and salary improvements, a reduction in student-to-teacher ratios, and measures to promote inclusive education. Discussions will continue this afternoon with a new session of the sectoral table.
This strike is part of a series of mobilizations that also include the participation of private-funded schools, as occurred on May 12th. Furthermore, the Platform of Families in Support of the Educational Strike has joined the protests, arguing in a manifesto that the teachers' demands directly defend children's rights.
Demonstrations have been organized in a decentralized manner in various Catalan locations, including Barcelona, Girona, Granollers, Lleida, Tarragona, and Torredembarra.
