Residents of Baix Penedès and northern Tarragonès are assessing the damage caused by torrential rains, which have flooded garages, ground floors, and beach areas.

Municipalities in Baix Penedès and northern Tarragonès have experienced the consequences of torrential rains throughout this morning, August 22, 2026. Residents have spent hours assessing the damage to both homes and the surrounding environment.
Joan Coll, who lives near Avinguda de la Mar in Creixell, described the situation as unprecedented: "There have been floods before, but never like this in my life." Despite living away from the stream, he noted that the sewage system could not withstand the intensity of the water.
Daniel Caceres, a resident of El Vendrell, echoed the severity of the event, highlighting that the gutters of some houses were close to breaking and that the water had carried a lot of debris.
According to the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat), the northern coast of Tarragonès has been the most affected area. Creixell, in particular, was hit hard by the storm, with streets and beach areas completely submerged.
Coll recounted how the water flooded his garage and ground-floor rooms, affecting appliances such as the washing machine, refrigerator, and freezer. The accumulated mud clearly shows how high the water level reached.
In El Vendrell, the recently inaugurated new urban promenade along the Aragalls stream was also affected, although the water did not reach the doors of nearby homes, according to Caceres.
The rainfall washed away numerous objects and debris, including vehicle license plates and bumpers, as a result of the flood.
