The new photovoltaic installation, awarded to Elecnor Servicios y Proyectos S.A.U., will have a capacity of 300 kWp and will be located on the roofs of Warehouses 1, 2, 3, and 4 on Moll de Costa. This action will allow the port area to increase its renewable energy generation capacity and advance towards its decarbonization goals, forming part of the #Ecoport2030 strategy.
The project involves an investment of 380,688.59 euros, with 40% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The works are scheduled to be completed within four months. With this new plant, the Port of Tarragona will exceed one megawatt (MW) of self-generated photovoltaic power, adding the 300 kWp from the new installation to the 750 kW it currently produces.
The installation will use 708 ultra-lightweight modules weighing 7.2 kilograms each, designed to reduce the load on existing structures and ensure safety. These panels will be adhered directly to the roofs using a mechanical-chemical system, avoiding the need for additional structures or perforations.
The Port of Tarragona already has several photovoltaic installations at different points within the precinct, including Moll de Costa, the administrative building, and the cruise terminal. The intention is to continue the deployment of renewables with a new 600 kWp plant at Moll de Castella and a study for 200 kWp panels in a car park near the administrative building, which will bring the port closer to 2 MW of capacity.
This initiative is part of the objectives of the European Green Deal and the National Energy and Climate Plan, reinforcing the energy transition and the reduction of the carbon footprint of port activities.
