The new photovoltaic plant, to be located on the roofs of Tinglados 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the Moll de Costa, will generate 300 kWp of green electricity. This energy will cover part of the port's energy demand. The project, with a budget of 380,688.59 euros (including taxes), is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER).
Construction is expected to take four months. With this new facility, the Port of Tarragona will surpass 1 MW of self-generated electricity capacity. This initiative is part of the #Ecoport2030 roadmap, advancing decarbonization and energy autonomy, and contributing to the European Green Deal.
The plant will use 708 ultra-lightweight photovoltaic modules (7.2 kg each, 62% lighter than conventional ones) to minimize the structural load on the buildings. They will be fixed using a direct mechanical-chemical adhesion system to the roof, avoiding perforations and ensuring watertightness.
With the addition of 300 kWp, the Port Authority of Tarragona (APT) will generate over 1 MWp of total self-generated power. Several photovoltaic installations are already operational at various locations within the port.
Furthermore, work is underway to install a 600 kWp plant on warehouses A, B, and C of Moll de Castella, which will be the APT's largest. An assessment is also being conducted for installing panels in the vehicle parking area adjacent to the administrative building (200 kWh). These projects will bring the port closer to 2 MW of photovoltaic generation.
The Tinglados plant has received European funding from the FEDER program, covering 40% of the investment, with the remaining 60% funded by the APT. This support underscores the importance of this investment for energy transition in the port sector and contributes to the objectives of the European Green Deal and the National Energy and Climate Plan.
