The Port of Tarragona has opened the first tenders for the OPS (Onshore Power Supply) system at the Balears Pier to allow cruise ships to plug into the grid.

This initial phase involves the construction of two transformer stations with a total budget of over 900,000 euros. The project aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and noise by allowing ships to turn off their engines while docked in Tarragona.
Part of the #EcoPort2030 strategy, the total investment reaches 22 million euros, partially funded by the European Union. The port expects the system to be fully functional well before the 2030 deadline set by international maritime regulations.
