The Minister of Linguistic Policy, F. Xavier Vila, has announced a historic budget for his department for 2026 in the Parliament. With a figure of 126 million euros, this represents an 113.5% increase compared to the last budget approved in 2023, marking "an unprecedented qualitative and quantitative leap in the history of linguistic policies in Catalonia". The main objective is to "deploy the National Pact for Language and make Catalan a fully competitive language in the 21st-century digital, audiovisual, and economic environment".
Minister Vila detailed the priorities of this budget, which include the "deployment of the Department and its consortia", the "strengthening of accreditation and learning materials", the "promotion of Catalan in language technologies and artificial intelligence", and the "facilitation of its use in strategic areas such as audiovisual, commerce, health, and business".
Beyond the general lines, it was confirmed that the department plans to establish its own territorial services in Terres de l'Ebre, as well as in Tarragona and Girona. Currently, the ministry does not have formal representation in these areas of the territory.
