The competition, which unites sport, history, and the links between Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, will commence on Friday, September 11th. The start will take place off the mouth of the port of Salou, from where 20 boats will embark on a demanding crossing of over 100 nautical miles to Mallorca, with the island of Dragonera serving as a key reference point.
With this year's participants, the regatta will surpass the accumulated figure of 500 boats over its four decades of history, demonstrating its continuity, prestige, and consolidation within the Mediterranean nautical calendar.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the Regata Rei en Jaume commemorates the expedition led by King Jaume I in September 1229, which set sail from Salou towards Mallorca. This race keeps alive the memory of that crossing, strengthens the ties between the two shores of the Mediterranean, and highlights the maritime tradition and heritage of Salou.
The collaboration between the municipalities of Salou and Calvià is crucial for preserving and promoting this historical, sporting, and institutional connection. The event program will begin on Thursday, September 10th, at the Club Nàutic de Salou with the skippers' meeting and the traditional regatta dinner. The competition starts on Friday, and on Saturday, September 12th, the events will culminate in the Balearic Islands with the closing dinner and trophy presentation.
