The works, with an estimated execution period of six months, aim to guarantee the building's conservation and stability, halting the deterioration caused by humidity, especially in the wooden structural elements. The deadline for submitting offers is October 1st.
The intervention will include preliminary shoring and the replacement of existing floor structures with a new metal framework, thereby reducing loads on the historic walls. The current wooden ladder will also be replaced with a metal one, interior surfaces will be cleaned, and specific actions will be taken on elements showing pathologies. These actions will follow criteria of minimal impact, reversibility, and respect for the original elements, and will require authorization from the Department of Culture.
The Councilor for Cultural Heritage, Daniel Pujol, highlighted that the action is necessary to preserve this unique heritage. The objective is to ensure its stability and, subsequently, to propose new uses to integrate it as a cultural resource within the Old Town.
The Torre de la Vila, of medieval origin and built in the 12th century, is part of the reform of the first urban nucleus's wall and retains Gothic elements. This intervention is the first phase of structural consolidation, with a subsequent second phase dedicated to rehabilitation and final finishes.
The City Council has secured a subsidy of €182,295.76 from the Generalitat de Catalunya for these works, covering 70% of the eligible cost. The remaining 30% will be provided by the council.
