The city of Reus hosted this morning the conference “Mental Health Reus: Community, Network, and Integral Care,” held at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. The meeting, promoted by the Government of the Generalitat through the National Mental Health Pact, brought together over 150 people with the aim of highlighting the impact and interrelation of mental health across all social and economic sectors.
Laia Arnal, director of the National Mental Health Pact, emphasized that mental health challenges "require summing up perspectives, knowledge, and capacities." Arnal advocated for the importance of these conferences to "highlight the work of professionals, entities, and users in the territory," noting their role as a meeting point to strengthen networking, "a key piece of integral and community care."
The conference was structured around three axes: prevention and promotion of emotional well-being throughout life; autonomy, recovery, and life projects, exploring person-centered care models; and first-person mental health, emphasizing rights, participation, and support networks.
The inaugural session was also attended by the mayor of Reus, Sandra Guaita, and the vice-rector for Infrastructure and Relations with Health Institutions, Fàtima Sabench. The mayor highlighted the involvement of the Reus City Council with the Service for Orientation and Care for Emotional and Mental Well-being (SOABEM), created in 2023, which offers free listening, orientation, and support.
This meeting in Reus is part of the conference series “Mental Health, a Shared Vision,” promoted by the National Mental Health Pact, to showcase experiences and resources from the region and foster reflection on more integrated and community-based care. It is the third session of a series that will continue throughout the territory.
