The Salou council deems the current situation unsustainable, as it severely harms legally established businesses, promotes the sale of counterfeit products, and projects a negative image of the area. Salou recalls its consistent efforts to combat this issue, successfully eradicating the presence of 'top manta' street vendors from its streets thanks to the work of the Local Police, collaboration with other security forces, and a clear political will.
The council regrets that the tolerance of this activity in a part of Cambrils creates a "pull effect," attracting individuals who previously operated illegally in other municipalities and who now establish residency in Salou, believing they have a guaranteed job in illegal street vending.
“"It cannot be allowed for an illegal activity, which harms commerce, the image of both municipalities, and coexistence, to find spaces of tolerance and permissiveness in Cambrils."
In light of this situation, the municipal government of Salou is considering forwarding the facts to the Public Prosecutor's Office. The aim is to analyze the existence of a market for allegedly counterfeit products and to determine if the actions constitute a criminal offense.
