The parents of a young person diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and severe intellectual disability have filed a complaint with the Catalan Ombudsman (Síndic de Greuges). The incident, which took place on April 28th involving a window at the Escola SOLC educational center, located at Campus Educatiu La Laboral, resulted in a significant arm injury for the minor, requiring transport to Joan XXIII Hospital.
According to the family, they have repeatedly requested that the building's windows, owned by the Department of Education, be adapted to comply with current safety regulations. However, they report a lack of effective response and concrete solutions from the authorities, as well as poor coordination between the center's management and the administration.
Following the accident, the minor remained at home until mid-May. Their gradual return to school is proving difficult due to the disruption of their usual routines and the absence of changes to ensure their safety. The parents warn that the student's educational activities have been limited to their classroom, which is affecting their adaptation and could have negative consequences for their mental health.
Given the lack of progress, the family has approached the Ombudsman to request urgent intervention. The association Todos En Azul has expressed its support for the family, warning that similar deficiencies in maintenance and safety could affect other special education centers in the area.
