The mobilization involves paralyzing fishing vessels and closing fish markets, many of which are managed by the guilds. While the main demonstration will take place in Madrid, fishermen in regions like Tarragona will gather outside local guild headquarters to protest against the regulation.
“"Boats are being forced to stop, wait, and lose money at sea just to comply with a bureaucratic procedure. It is a useless, ineffective, and profoundly damaging measure."
The guilds reject the regulation due to obligations deemed impractical, such as communicating port entry at least four hours in advance. This requirement is considered inadmissible for small-scale vessels that operate close to the coast and perform trips lasting less than 24 hours.
Another major point of contention is the “zero kilogram” measure, which mandates registering catches from the moment of fishing. The FNCP argues that “to expect a fisherman to weigh grams on deck, with the boat moving and actively fishing, is not control; it is ignorance of how operations at sea are conducted.”
We demand fair, consensual regulations adapted to the reality of the fishing sector.
The FNCP has urged the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) to act immediately. They have specifically requested the immediate exemption from prior notification for vessels with trips under 24 hours, as permitted by the regulation, and a maximum transitional period of 30 minutes, adjusted to real navigation time.
