The Junts municipal group in Tarragona and the Mercaderies per l'Interior platform have voiced their rejection of Adif's plan to install five-meter-high acoustic screens.

The project by the railway infrastructure manager, Adif, aims to mitigate noise pollution from passing trains. However, local representatives argue that the five-meter height of these barriers would cause significant visual damage to the city's landscape and historical sites.
A major point of contention is the proximity to the Roman Amphitheatre. Critics warn that such large structures would negatively impact the heritage value of the UNESCO World Heritage site, obstructing views and altering the historical context of Tarraco.
As a compromise, they have proposed an alternative technical solution: 1.35-meter concrete mini-barriers. This system is designed to provide the same level of noise reduction as the taller screens while maintaining a much lower profile that does not interfere with the city's monumental skyline.
