The Tarragona demarcation registered nearly 1,000 squatted homes for sale at the end of 2025, according to an Idealista study, positioning it as one of the areas with the highest incidence in Spain.

The study prepared by Idealista based on fourth-quarter 2025 data indicates that the Tarragona demarcation closed the year with approximately 1,000 occupied properties advertised in the purchase and sale market. This figure represents 4.6% of the total real estate offer in the area, significantly exceeding the national average of 3%.
Regarding the capital, Tarragona city is the Spanish capital with the highest percentage of squatted homes for sale, reaching 8.5% of the total offer, although the absolute number slightly decreased to 153 properties. At the regional level, Catalonia concentrates 40% of all squatted homes sold in Spain.

The market evolution indicates that the sale of homes without possession is consolidating as a structural reality within the Spanish real estate market.

Nationally, the number of squatted homes for sale grew by 4.6% in just three months, reaching 24,058 units by the end of 2025. Within Catalonia, the Tarragona demarcation is behind Barcelona in absolute volume but remains one of the provinces with the highest relative weight of this phenomenon.
